When we started working on Block Smash at Pixeltub Games, our goal was simple: make a hyper-satisfying game where every tap and swipe feels amazing.
What we quickly realized is โ in fast-paced games, how the game feels is even more important than how it looks.
Here are 3 key lessons we learned about game feel while making Block Smash:
1. Instant Feedback Makes Everything More Fun
In Block Smash, when you break a block, you instantly see it pop, shatter, or bounce โ and you hear that satisfying crunch sound.
No delay. No lag. Just immediate reaction.
Why it matters:
- Players feel powerful when their actions cause instant, noticeable reactions.
- Even a small delay can make the whole experience feel “off” or “sluggish.”
๐ Lesson: If something cool happens in the game, show it and play a sound immediately.

2. Tiny Animations Create Big Impact
At first, we thought big effects were the key.
Later, we realized that tiny micro-animations โ like a block wobble, a slight squish before smashing, or a screen shake on a combo โ made the game way more lively.
Why it matters:
- Small, quick movements make the world feel responsive and alive.
- Players subconsciously notice and appreciate these little details.
๐ Lesson: Donโt just focus on the big “wow” moments. Add lots of small “feel-good” touches everywhere.

3. Juiciness Is a Balancing Act
We experimented with making Block Smash super “juicy” โ tons of particles, screen shakes, flashes, effects.
At one point… it was too much. It distracted players from actually smashing blocks.
Why it matters:
- “Juice” (particles, effects, sound) is important, but too much makes gameplay confusing.
- Players still want clarity โ especially in fast games.
๐ Lesson: Add juice โ but always prioritize clarity first, chaos second.

๐ฎ Final Thoughts
Making Block Smash taught us that game feel isnโt just polish you add at the end. Itโs something you build from the first prototype.
The right feel turns a simple idea into an addictive experience.
And honestly?
Nothing beats seeing players smile when a perfect smash combo explodes across the screen. โจ
Weโre excited to keep pushing what “feel” means in every game we make next!
